Ranking College Football Week 5 upsets: Texas A&M and OU falter again
Looking back at the biggest upsets of College Football Week 5, Texas A&M football and Oklahoma have to rank among the most surprising.
Upsets have always been part of what makes college football so great. The idea is that any week, anyone can beat anyone.
It’s not true to that extent, but how many expected Missouri to lead Georgia by 10 points on Saturday night? Certainly not me.
That would have been the No. 1 upset on this list of college football stunners for Week 5 of the season, but the Bulldogs survived by four. Each week is about surviving and advancing.
Here’s a look at five teams that didn’t do that as we rank the top five college football upsets from Week 5.
(Odds via Draft Kings)
5. No. 15 Washington (-2.5) at UCLA
Don’t look now but Chip Kelly’s UCLA Bruins are 5-0 and ranked in the top 25. Nobody was taking them seriously after some struggles to start the season, however, the Bruins have just kept winning and they didn’t stop against Washington.
Dorian Thompson-Robinson threw for 315 yards and three touchdowns on 24-of-33 passes. Zach Charbonnet, also dominated on the ground, finishing with 124 yards on 22 carries. Not to be overlooked the defense came to play too and intercepted Washington QB Michael Penix Jr. twice.
While it was a huge win for the Bruins, it wasn’t the biggest upset of the week by far. Washington just recently got ranked and was only a 2.5-point favorite. Still, it’s a massive win for the Bruins who are 5-0, and could make the Crosstown game in LA quite interesting later on.
