Pac-12 football power rankings: UCLA making huge moves
By Dante Pryor
9. Arizona (3-2, 1-1)
When you build a program the way Jed Fisch is attempting to build Arizona, a 3-2 start is progress. Fisch would have liked the California game to have a different result, but overall the football team is showing signs of life. Incremental progress has to be the goal over the next month because their next five opponents are the top five teams in the conference.
8. Oregon State (3-2, 0-2)
Jonathan Smith and the Oregon State Beavers have come back to earth. After a close loss to #6 USC, the Beavers had their hats handed to them by No. 12 Utah 42-16 at Rice-Eccles over the weekend. The Beavers are a better program than its 0-2 conference start, but Smith has to be concerned about the quarterback position.
Oregon State quarterbacks have thrown eight interceptions in their first two conference games. When your margins are that tight, you can’t beat yourself by throwing to the other jersey.
7. California (3-2, 1-1)
After scoring 49 points against Arizona, the Golden Bears could muster just nine points against a Washington State team that is playing good defense this season. Head coach Justin Wilcox has to be concerned because quarterback Jack Plummer, who has been sacked 16 times this season, appeared to be injured late in the game.
