Tennessee Football made another statement on Saturday with a blowout win over LSU and here are three takeaways from the Vols’ 27-point win.

The tests keep coming for Tennessee Football and the Vols keep passing them with flying colors as they did Saturday with 40-13 road win over 25th-ranked LSU.

It was a little eye-opening when I saw the Tigers in the Top 25. I certainly didn’t think they were one of the 25 best teams in the country and predicted Tennessee football to win by double digits. Yet, I didn’t see this kind of blowout.

The eighth-ranked Volunteers look like a legitimate threat to win the SEC and the good news is, we’ll find out about that next week as a showdown with Alabama looms.

Still, this was the third ranked opponent that Tennessee football has beaten and the first on the road in a tough place to play at Death Valley.

The game was over by the fourth quarter and here are three takeaways from the Vols’ win over LSU.

Hendon Hooker is a legit threat to win the Heisman Trophy

I’ve been on this train for the past couple of weeks but Hooker put together another impressive performance with 239 yards and two touchdowns (zero interceptions) as well as 56 rushing yards.

It wasn’t the most eye-popping stats wise, but Hooker is so controlled, it sometimes seems like a mistake would be impossible. Of course, it’s not but no individual player has had a greater impact on his team than Hendon Hooker so far this season.

And if the former transfer leads the Vols to an upset of Alabama next week, he’ll easily become the Heisman Trophy frontrunner. He’s already in my top two.
