3 takeaways from UCLA Football’s win over Utah
Two Heisman hopefuls?
It’s probably too early to say that either Dorian Thompson-Robinson or Zach Charbonnet are among the Heisman Trophy favorites, but there are decent cases to be made for both.
Charbonnet still has a ton of work to do. It’s really hard for running backs to get consideration. Yet, since the start of Pac-12 play, the former Michigan running back has been unstoppable and he tore up the Utah defense to the tune of 198 yards and two touchdowns.
Charbonnet has 426 yards in three Pac-12 games which is an average of 8.03 yards per game, as well as scoring six touchdowns. His best hope is to emerge as the top running back and keep, as I said, putting up crazy numbers.
It’s a long shot but his production warrants it if it continues.
Thompson-Robinson is going to have a better chance of being a Heisman contender because of his position. He started the weekend seventh in QBR and dominated against one of the best defenses in the country. At least it usually is.
If he can do that next week against Oregon and the Bruins gets to 7-0, some Heisman voters will need to start paying attention to the West Coast even more.
