3 takeaways from UCLA Football’s win over Utah
Utah is far from done in the Pac-12
Before the 2022 season, the Pac-12 switched from a division format to something like the Big 12, which takes the top two teams by record to the championship game.
For Utah, this is a good thing. The Utes are 2-1 but even if the Bruins finished with a better record in the Pac-12 standings, Utah could get another chance.
That’s why this format is being adopted. Utah would have needed UCLA to lose twice while winning the rest of its games to win the Pac-12 South. As it stands now, the Utes still control their own destiny, essentially, in the Pac-12 title race.
Any hope of making the College Football Playoff is over. It probably was even before the loss to UCLA. But with USC (next week) and Oregon on the schedule, the Utes have the top contenders remaining on schedule and if they win out, they will play for the Pac-12 title.
That being said, beating Oregon and USC will be easier said than done.
