College Football Week 6 didn’t disappoint. Some surprise teams proved they are legit, while Oklahoma proved it’s got a problem. Here are our gut reactions from Week 6.

It’s been another wild week of college football. The crazy upsets have been avoided, for the most part, and nothing happened that drastically changed the college football playoff race.

Yet, there were still some surprises as there always are, and frankly, one of the biggest was the fact that Oklahoma was embarrassed by Texas in College Football Week 6 49-0.

Oklahoma might be the worst team in the Big 12

Just a few weeks ago, it was Oklahoma that was embarrassing people — Nebraska in particular in the 49-14 win. Since then, Dillon Gabriel has been hurt and without him on Saturday, the offense looked incapable of scoring. The Sooners managed just 39 passing yards.

It was downright ugly and Oklahoma fans have already started to call for the end of the Brent Venables era, which is wild because two weeks ago, the Sooners looked like a potential playoff team.

Now, they look like they might be the worst team in the entire Big 12. West Virginia is right there but Texas Tech, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, Texas, etc have all looked better. The Sooners, without Gabriel, are in the bottom half, not the top and that shouldn’t be the case.

Texas is still a team to reckon with

Another gut reaction to the Red River Rivalry is that Texas is still capable of winning the Big 12 title. Quinn Ewers threw for 287 yards and four touchdowns. The Longhorns dominated on defense and so did Bijan Robinson who finished the game with 130 yards and two touchdowns.

Oklahoma State, Kansas State, and TCU are undefeated, but remember, the top 2 teams advance to the Big 12 title game. The loss to Texas Tech probably isn’t going to come back to bite the Longhorns in terms of tiebreakers. They just need to keep winning.

The two losses without Ewers for Texas had to be hard to swallow because the Longhorns could easily be undefeated overall and in conference play. Still, they control their destiny in the Big 12 and that’s all you can ask for.
