Kansas football would eventually lose, but what a game. Led by Max Duggan’s stellar performance, TCU won a wild road game against the upstart No. 19 Kansas Jayhawks 38-31. The senior quarterback threw for 308 yards and three touchdowns, adding 55 rush yards and another touchdown.

After a slow start to the game, things picked up immediately in the second half. The Horned Frogs took a 10-3 lead into the locker room, but the Jayhawks scored on their first possession of the third quarter of this game. Kansas was fortunate to have a veteran backup quarterback after Jalon Daniels went down with a shoulder injury in the second quarter.

Jason Bean threw for 262 yards and four touchdowns against the Frogs in relief of Daniels. Bean added 34 rushing yards as well.

Bean played as well as Duggan, but the key plays that make the difference in close games like this one. Daniels fumbled inside the five-yard line, and TCU went on a 99-yard drive to score. The Kansas staff prides itself on “not playing bad football” by doing the little things right. However, Kansas fumbled four times today, losing one. The other three fumbles stifled drives.

After a week of dealing with expectations, Kansas now has to learn how to deal with some adversity. Here are three takeaways from today’s game.
