College football Week 6 winners and losers headlined by Notre Dame, Utah Utes

After a wild Week 6 of college football, it’s time to crown our winners and losers. We saw some great action across the board throughout the week, including some huge upsets.

It looks more and more likely that Georgia and Alabama are going to have a tough time trying to overcome Tennessee and Ole Miss later this season, respectively. The rest of the top 10 college football teams won this week, creating little room for teams to advance up the polls.

This week, we saw Kansas’ Cinderella story come to a close with a loss to TCU, we saw Oklahoma get shutout in epic fashion by rival Texas in the Red River Shootout, and Kentucky failed to get any tractions without star QB Will Levis playing against South Carolina.

Let’s dive in and check out which players and teams are winners and losers from a thrilling few days of college football.

Winner: Mississippi State Bulldogs

The Mississippi State football team had yet to defeat the Arkansas Razorbacks in the Mike Leach era— until now. The Bulldogs blew out the Hogs 40-17, reaffirming their status as one of the best teams in that second tier of SEC football teams.

QB Will Rogers broke the SEC record for most completed passes in a career during the first quarter against the Hogs, surpassing former Georgia standout Aaron Murray who held the record of 921 completions in 52 games. Rogers eclipsed that mark in just 28 games.

Winner: Texas QB Quinn Ewers

In his first game back since suffering an injury against Alabama on Sept. 10, Texas Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers served up an outstanding performance against rival Oklahoma in Week 6 of the 2022 college football season. He was 21/31 for 289 yards and 4 TD in the 49-0 win in the Red River Shootout.

What a way for Ewers to come back into the fold and give this offense a huge injection of energy. There’s little doubt he will be a huge problem for opposing defenses to try to plan for moving forward the rest of the way this season.
