Alabama Football: 3 takeaways from thrilling road loss to Volunteers
By Dante Pryor
What’s next for Alabama?
The Crimson Tide is still in the hunt for both the SEC and the College Football Playoff. Nick Saban and his staff have a lot to fix, especially on defense. Tennessee torched Alabama’s secondary and did an excellent job blocking Will Anderson and Dallas Turner to keep Hendon Hooker clean.
Coach Saban cannot be happy about the 16 penalties. Once again, the Crimson Tide struggled to stay disciplined against a team on the road. They had 15 penalties against Texas, ten against Arkansas, and now 16 tonight. One of those penalties erased an interception that could have put the game away.
What’s next for Tennessee?
The Volunteers have slayed their dragon, breaking that 15-game losing streak. Now Tennessee has to learn how to play with expectations. The Volunteers have #22 Kentucky, and #1 Georgia left on the schedule. If they get past the Wildcats, their trip to Athens could decide the SEC East.
If there is any lesson the Volunteers can learn, they can take advantage of any defenses weakness. The Volunteers blocked Alabama well, used the running game effectively to complement the passing game, and found a way to win.
