Big 12 football power rankings: TCU, Texas jockeying for top spot
By Dante Pryor
5. No. 11 Oklahoma State Cowboys (5-1, 2-1)
The Cowboys are off this week after suffering their first loss of the season, letting a 30-16 lead evaporate against No. 8 TCU. The Cowboys controlled most of the game until Max Duggan, and the Frogs decided to wake up and do something about the deficit. This game is the worst defensive performance under defensive coordinator Derek Mason.
4. Kansas Jayhawks (5-2, 2-2)
The Jayhawks have begun to regress toward the mean losing their last two conference games. Hopefully, Kansas can find one more win to cap off what would be a fantastic season. It will be interesting to see how well Baylor defends Kansas’ motion (and we’re not talking basketball) when they travel to Waco.
3. No. 17 Kansas State Wildcats (5-1, 3-0)
As I stated earlier, Kansas State is one of just two teams with a perfect conference record and the Wildcats will have a shot at moving up to No. 1 with a win over TCU this week.
2. No. 22 Texas Longhorns (5-1, 3-1)
Texas’ win against Iowa State was a huge culture builder. The Cyclones drugged them into the mud and turned the game into a rock fight. The Longhorns did not play well, and Iowa State had a chance to win the game late. Texas found a way to win the game, which did not happen a couple of seasons ago.
1. No. 8 TCU Horned Frogs (6-0, 3-0)
The Horned Frogs found a way to come back and defeat Oklahoma State. That game was symbolic of what the Big 12 is as a conference. Any weekend any team can win. Head coach Sonny Dykes has the Frogs playing well. After this weekend, TCU or Kansas State will no longer be undefeated in the battle of Purple Haze.
