Alabama vs Mississippi State: 3 Takeaways from the Tide’s Trashing
3. Alabama’s Path to the #1 Seed is Clear and Intact
Even with their loss against Tennessee, Bama could end up unaffected in terms of postseason play. The rest of their season isn’t a cakewalk, including a trip to LSU, a matchup against formerly unbeaten Ole Miss, and the Iron Bowl all in store.
However, Alabama should be heavily favored in all of these, and with a loss effectively eliminating them from the playoffs for just the second time, Nick Saban won’t allow his team to be ill-prepared.
This leaves an SEC championship with either top-ranked Georgia or round two against Tennessee. Again, a loss there knocks them out, but a win makes them the one-loss SEC champion with the best win in the country.
The loss to Tennessee, Alabama’s first since 2006, stings. But it’s not the end of the world for the Tide, nor is it far from it. So long as the Tide roll, they’ll be right where they usually are heading into the playoffs.
