College Football Rankings 2022: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 9
It looked like Cincinnati was just going to run away with an easy with over SMU on Saturday afternoon, but the Mustangs battled back. Cincinnati was up 17-0 early and then 29-14 late in the second half, but SMU nearly pulled off the comeback, losing 29-27. This was a big win for the Bearcats, but they are beatable this year.
I’m not sure what to make of Kentucky this season. The Wildcats are good but they look lost without Will Levis. Which is fair because he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the country. They picked up a big win over Mississippi State last week heading into a bye. They’ll get their toughest matchup of the year out of the bye in Tennessee in Week 9.
Right when we think LSU won’t be back in the rankings again this season, Brian Kelly’s team goes out and proves everyone wrong. The Tigers were down 17-3 early to Ole Miss and then turned on the burners to win by three scores in a runaway victory. Jayden Daniels and this offense is starting to really click.
Is there a bigger surprise in college football than Illinois this year? The Fighting Illini look like one of the best teams in the Big Ten after a 6-1 start and Bret Bielema is showing just why he was considered one of the best coaches in the country a decade ago before his short Arkansas tenure. This team could legitimately represent the Big Ten West in the title game.
Syracuse just has Clemson’s number and that was never more obvious than on Saturday when the Orange raced out to a 21-7 lead right before halftime. They couldn’t muster a single point in the second half and fell 27-21, but this was valiant effort and I don’t think Syracuse will drop too far after this loss.
