3 underrated college football games you can’t miss in Week 9
3. Michigan State at #4 Michigan
7:30 pm, ABC
On paper, there’s no reason Michigan doesn’t dominate this game. Offensively, Michigan has made great run defenses look bad; Michigan State ranks 10th in run defense among the Big 10. That is their defensive strength though, as the Spartan pass defense, while improved from last year, ranks 13th in the B1G.
Michigan’s defense stacks up about as favorably, as they stand as the second-best scoring defense in the conference, while Michigan State comes in as the ninth-ranked offense. Heisman-hopeful running back Blake Corum could be in for a field day, as the revenge-driven Wolverines will look to run things up.
No one has told any of this to Spartan coach Mel Tucker, though. While the team went through a bit of a rough stretch, they managed a double overtime win against Wisconsin two weeks ago, and have had a bye week to extend their preparation for Michigan.
The Spartans have also gained a few key players, such as safety Xavier Henderson and DT Jacob Slade, who were both back for their win over the Badgers and have used the extra week to get back to 100%.
There is no question that Michigan State will come out swinging from the gate. Michigan better be ready to handle this, or we could have a massive upset in Ann Arbor.
