Big 12 Power Rankings: #7 TCU alone in first place
By Dante Pryor
10. Iowa State Cyclones (3-4, 0-4)
The Cyclones attempt to dig themselves out of the cellar of the Big 12 Football standings as they host the Oklahoma Sooners this weekend. Iowa State is going to play good defense. Can they score points? That has been the issue with the Cyclones all season. It must be something in the water in the entire state that slows down offenses.
9. West Virginia Mountaineers (3-4, 1-3)
The # 7 Horned Frogs need to be careful with their road game at West Virginia. These are the types of games that top-ranked teams lose in the Big 12. TCU has escaped two weeks in a row, once against Oklahoma State and once against Kansas State. TCU is the better team and should take care of business but JT Daniels and Bryce Ford-Wheaton are a really good QB/WR combo.
8. Oklahoma Sooners (4-3, 1-3)
The Sooners are trying to keep Iowa State in the cellar and themselves out of the cellar this weekend. Dillon Gabriel makes the Sooners potent offensively but –ironically enough — their struggles have been on defense. Iowa State’s offense might be the elixir Oklahoma’s defense needs to get right.
7. Kansas Jayhawks (5-3, 2-3)
The Jayhawks look to be in free fall but losing Jalon Daniels has been a blow to the entire team. Jason Bean has played well but Daniels is the heart and soul of that team. His loss — and a tougher schedule — has hurt the Jayhawks. Kansas has four games left this season and only needs to win one of them to go to a bowl game.
6. Baylor Bears (4-3, 2-2)
Baylor’s last two games are a microcosm of its season. They lost a close game to West Virginia and then won a close game against Kansas. Baylor’s margins are so thin because the defense has been inconsistent. Specifically, they’ve been susceptible to big plays, but the offense is built to front-run.
