2. Matt Rhule

Matt Rhule might not seem like a sexy option but he’s a really good college head coach and Auburn football fans shouldn’t judge him too quickly on his tenure with the Panthers.

Consider that Steve Spurrier, Nick Saban, and Bobby Petrino all left the NFL after not having success and had tremendous success in the SEC.

If the Panthers had a quarterback, it might be different but they never got one and if you struggle at the position in the NFL, it’s really hard to overcome that.

Rhule won a conference championship at Temple and also coached Baylor to the Big 12 championship game after it was a total disaster following NCAA penalties.

The guy knows how to build a culture and after being a former offensive line coach in the NFL, he knows what it takes to build a winning brand of football.  You have to win in the trenches in the SEC and Rhule could help with that.

I also think he’s a really good college football coach and Auburn football might be one of the few jobs that could be attractive enough to get him back into coaching next season.
