3. Hugh Freeze

This is another name I expect to get traction for the Auburn football job. Hugh Freeze had a lot of success at Ole Miss and had multiple wins over Nick Saban, who has been a nemesis for the Tigers for nearly two decades now.

Freeze also has a brilliant offensive mind. His teams also had really good offenses at Ole Miss and he’s taken that to Liberty, which is 7-1 this season and ranked in the AP Top 25.

The fact that Freeze has already had success in the SEC at a program like Ole Miss, which he led to the Sugar Bowl is one reason why he would make sense. He also knows how to recruit in the conference and while he had a history of violations, the NIL era has changed everything.

Freeze has an 82-40 record as a head coach and is 6-2 in bowl games. He also coached Ole Miss to a pair of New Years’ Six Bowl games.

The guy can coach and has shown that at Liberty. A major program is going to take a chance on him soon and if Coach Prime and Rhule say no, Auburn should be the one to offer him that opportunity.
