Big Ten football power rankings, Week 10: Buckeyes top the Lions
By Shane Lunnen
Off the bye week, Nebraska fell flat against Illinois 26-9. The quarterbacks Casey Thompson and Chubba Purdy were mostly ineffective, combining for three interceptions. The ground game could only muster 60 yards so the Huskers were neutralized for the most part.
The Huskers have responded fairly well to Mickey Joseph as interim head coach. But it is very possible AD Trev Alberts goes in a different direction at season’s end. The Huskers host Minnesota next Saturday.
Michigan State could do very little to stop Michigan Saturday night in a 29-7 loss. The defense gave up over 440 yards including 276 on the ground. The Spartan offense really could not get anything going after a late first quarter drive that was successful for their only points of the evening.
It was also not a good look what happened after the game in the Michigan tunnel. As a result of the incident, four Spartans have been suspended. Mel Tucker needs to keep his team from spiraling out of control. They face surging Illinois next Saturday.
Iowa tallied nearly 400 yards of total offense and all 33 of their points can be contributed to their offense, surprisingly so. The defense also only gave up 13 points with the last six coming on the last play of the game in garbage time. The Iowa defense also held the Wildcats to under 180 yards total offense, including 18 yards on the ground.
The Hawkeyes still need to find two more wins to get bowl eligibility but November looks to be a tough stretch. They will travel to Purdue next Saturday.
