As we conclude week 10 of the college football season, we have officially entered the “what the heck is going on!” phase of the 2022 season.

Tennessee, the most dominant team of the season so far, got absolutely manhandled at #3 Georgia. #2 Ohio State survived a hurricane at Northwestern and #4 Clemson proved everyone right, showing they don’t belong in the playoff field after getting embarrassed at Notre Dame. And Brian Kelly finally got that elusive win against Nick Saban!

Here are week 10’s projections for the New Year’s Six, including the College Football Playoff National Championship.

Cotton Bowl

UCF v UCLA

Both UCF and UCLA survived potential trap road games with UCLA dropping 50 on Arizona State in a 14-point road victory at Tempe, while UCF overcame injuries to win at Memphis 35-28.

UCF showed a lot, playing without their quarterback John Rhys Plumlee who was still out after missing the second half of their upset victory over Cincinnati last week and continued to play well behind backup Mikey Keene.

#22 UCF will likely need Plumlee back next week when they head down to #17 Tulane for a massive test that could decide the Group of Five bid. A win by UCF essentially locked up the Cotton Bowl bid for UCF. A loss and the Tulane v Cincinnati game in a few weeks get a whole lot more interesting.

UCLA continues to offensively roll, as they are inching closer to the Battle of Los Angeles hosting USC. A win and there may be a path to the CFP, but for now, we’ll slot Chip Kelly and the Bruins in the Cotton Bowl.
