Rose Bowl

Oregon v Penn State

Previous: Oregon v Michigan

For the first time in over a month, we are making a change in our Rose Bowl projection. Welcome back to the NY6 party, Penn State.

It appeared after Penn State got wrecked by Michigan and finished poorly against Ohio State, that they’d be on the outside looking in on the NY6.

Fast forward a week, and chaos may have opened the door for James Franklin and company. After crushing Indiana 45-14, the Nittany Lions got to sit back and watch Alabama, Tennessee, and Clemson go down.

How does this help Penn State? It creates a special ( and dangerous) path for a few teams that we’ll talk about later in this article, but a path that opens up the need for the 3rd-place team out of the Big Ten to represent the conference in Pasadena.

Oregon, behind Heisman dark horse Bo Nix, easily dispatched the Golden Bears of Cal 49-10. Nix, who looked overwhelmed in Week 1 against Georgia, just scored 5 touchdowns and may have Oregon and himself in contention for some major trophies.

#6 Oregon will host their rival #25 Washington Huskies in what could be another ranked win for a Ducks team that is surging. The following week, they’ll host #13 Utah in a rematch of last year’s PAC 12 Championship, in which Oregon was humiliated.

Make no mistake, if the Ducks run the table and face a top 10 team in the PAC 12 Championship, they may be a win away from the CFP.

In week 10’s projection, we see the Ducks and Nittany Lions match up in a fun Rose Bowl.
