Alabama football: 3 takeaways from gutsy road win at Ole Miss

Coming off its second loss of the season, Alabama football was tasked with facing yet another ranked SEC team on the road in Week 11. The Tide went into Oxford against an 8-1 Ole Miss team and escaped with a 30-24 win.

Alabama was staring at a third loss which is rare in the Nick Saban era, but the defense stood tall on Ole Miss’ final drive. The Rebels drove into the Alabama red zone, but the defense stepped up and forced a turnover on downs to secure the win.

The Tide are now 8-2 on the year.

What’d we learn from this one?

3. The rushing attack was disappointing

Ole Miss has one of the worst run defenses in college football, allowing over 150 yards per game on the ground this year, and I expected the Crimson Tide to take full advantage.

Well, Jahmyr Gibbs was a non-factor with three yards on six touches and Jase McClellan led the way with 84 yards on 19 touches. The offense as a whole averaged 3.0 yards per carry on 36 touches which isn’t going to beat many teams.

But for a team like Alabama to finish with just over 100 rushing yards against one of the worst run defenses in the SEC, that has to be so disappointing for Nick Saban.
