It’s actually insane how much Stanford has regressed over the past few seasons while Utah football continues its steady rise to the top of the Pac-12.

These two programs are headed in opposite directions and that showed on Saturday night as the Utes overcame an early 7-0 deficit to score 42 straight points and beat the Cardinal by five touchdowns in Salt Lake City.

With the win, the Utes improve to 8-2 on the year and 6-1 in conference play, keeping them alive in the Pac-12 title race.

What’d we learn from this blowout win?

3. Utah football’s defense was unreal

With Cameron Rising a little off early on, he needed the defense to step up and keep his Utes in the game while he figured things out.

The defense didn’t just step up early on, it kept the pressure on Stanford all game long.

In fact, the Cardinal finished with a whopping 22 rushing yards on 26 carries and they also had just 155 passing yards on 25 attempts. The defense played a fantastic game and this is what makes Utah such a threat to win the Pac-12 this year.

When the Utes’ defense is playing like this, no one is beating them.
