Going for it on fourth down has become a regular occurrence in college football these days, but Dan Lanning is probably wishing he had his decision to go for it back. The Oregon coach went for it on fourth down deep in his own territory with the game knotted at 34-34 against Washington football and, well, it backfired.

Washington stopped the Ducks as Oregon’s running back was tripped up in the backfield and all the Huskies had to do was hold for a field goal and stop the Ducks with under a minute left on the flip side.

And Washington did just that.

It was the biggest win of the Kalen DeBoer era and the Huskies will undoubtedly jump in the playoff rankings this week.

What’d we learn from this one?

3. Washington had a counter for every Oregon punch

Washington came out and put Oregon on the ropes early with a touchdown on the first drive of the game, going 75 yards on 12 plays in just over five minutes. That set the tone.

Oregon responded with a field goal and then Washington went right back at the Ducks with a field goal to take a 10-3 lead. Oregon struck back with a touchdown before the Huskies added the go-ahead field goal right before halftime.

The second half was much more high-octane as the Ducks came out firing and even took a 24-20 lead before Washington swiped it right back. Things kept going back and forth and in a hostile environment, the Huskies responded to every Oregon punch which is exactly what title contenders do.

This was truly impressive.
