ACC football power rankings: Conference title game officially set
By Dante Pryor
6. Louisville Cardinals (6-4, 3-4)
The Louisville Cardinals came into their game against Clemson as one of the hottest teams in college football, winning four consecutive games. Clemson, however, came into this game ornery after its loss to Notre Dame. The Cardinals ran into a buzzsaw, falling to the Tigers 31-16 on the road. The Cardinals are an odd team to figure and very inconsistent. That makes Scott Satterfield’s future uncertain.
5. Pittsburgh Panthers (6-4, 3-3)
Pitt’s game against Duke is for sole possession of second place in the ACC Coastal. That could be crucial positioning if the ACC gets a team into the playoff. The Panther’s season can be summed up in simple terms; they beat teams they are supposed to beat and lose to better teams. Saturday’s 37-7 drubbing of Virginia is a perfect example of that fact.
4. Duke Blue Devils (7-3, 4-2)
Head coach Mike Elko deserves consideration for both ACC and National coach of the year for the job he’s done in his first year in Durham. The Blue Devils were on the brink of football irrelevance the last couple of years under David Cutcliffe. Elko has shown that all the Blue Devils needed was a new voice in the locker room.
Elko has gotten a lot out of Riley Leonard and the offense, and the defense has played extremely well this season.
