I didn’t expect to see Notre Dame as a top-15 team when the season began and they lost to Marshall and Ohio State to start the year 0-2. Heck, Marcus Freeman was 0-3 to start his Notre Dame coaching career dating back to the Fiesta Bowl, and it felt like it might be time to hit the panic button. Fast forward a couple of months and the Irish are 8-3 with three ranked wins.

Utah was looking to continue its dominance over Oregon that it had last season but it fell just short, 20-17, on Saturday night in Eugene. Cameron Rising had one of his worst games of the season, throwing three picks, and Utah falls to 6-2 in conference play with no Pac-12 title in its future. A solid season, but short of expectations.

If it weren’t for a loss to Arizona State earlier this year, Washington would be a top-10 team right now. Unfortunately, that really bad loss did happen and it probably ruined Michael Penix Jr.’s Heisman hopes. Instead, Washington is 9-2 after a blowout win over Colorado and the Huskies will have to hope Oregon loses in the finale so they can make the Pac-12 title game.

Chris Klieman has done one of the best coaching jobs in college football this season and if it weren’t for Sonny Dykes, he’d probably be the favorite for Big 12 Coach of the Year. The Wildcats just continue to take care of business, going on the road to beat West Virginia by three scores.

Tennessee had the worst luck in Week 12, losing to South Carolina by 25 points and then losing Hendon Hooker for the rest of the season in the process. It was just a disaster of a week for a team that was trying to make a playoff push. I see Tennessee dropping out of the top 10 because they don’t have a quarterback and looked horrible in Week 12.
