Ole Miss football may soon be looking for a new head coach after rumors surfaced on Monday night regarding an open job elsewhere in the SEC.
It’s been rumored ever since Bryan Harsin was fired at Auburn that Lane Kiffin would be a good option and worth a call. And we’re seeing those rumors gain some steam.
This is a big week for Ole Miss football, however, as it’ll be facing Mississippi State in the annual Egg Bowl and it’s a chance for Kiffin’s team to earn a better bowl bid.
But it’s going to be tough to ignore rumors which come from a report by Jon Sokoloff. He said that Kiffin is planning on stepping down.
BREAKING: #OleMiss HC Lane Kiffin plans to step down as the Rebels coach Friday and head to Auburn to become the Tigers next head coach, according to sources

Sources say the Tigers haven’t officially offered the job to anyone yet.
So Lane to Auburn is happening. Story soon.
Kiffin hasn’t offered up a public statement yet, well, because it’s 8 p.m. ET and there’s no way for him to say anything unless it’s on social media.
But wait, he did offer up a tweet about 30 minutes after this report surfaced.

Lane is an absolute mystery.
Where would Ole Miss football go if Lane leaves?
There are going to be some big names available this offseason in terms of rising star assistants and other head coaches who might be drawn to the SEC.
A couple of names that come to mind are Kenny Dillingham, Oregon’s offensive coordinator, and Dave Aranda who seems to always be rumored for openings elsewhere. Maybe he’d be interested in coming back to the SEC after winning a national title as LSU’s defensive coordinator in 2019. Heck, it wouldn’t hurt for Ole Miss to give Dan Lanning a call.
Is this just a wild report followed by a Kiffin troll to kind of say “don’t believe everything you read” or is there truth to this? I guess we’ll find out after the Egg Bowl.
