There’s going to be a ton of debate ahead of Sunday’s rankings about who deserves to be in the final playoff field. Does Alabama deserve to jump into that top four with TCU’s loss to Kansas State in the Big 12 title game?

I’ll be honest with you: if the playoff committee only cares about money and ratings, it’s going to give the Tide a nod over the Horned Frogs. That’s still very possible, but I think every college football fan is hoping the committee has some sort of integrity and leaves TCU in the top four.

And that’s not a knock on Nick Saban or Alabama.

Alabama may very well be more talented than TCU and it would give Georgia a much better test in the playoff semifinal, but you have to go with who is more deserving. Is it the team with a single loss to a top-10 team in overtime of the conference title game or is it the two-loss team that didn’t make the SEC title game?

The answer is fairly obvious so I see Alabama sitting at No. 5 in the latest rankings this week.
