NC State won its season finale over North Carolina in a thriller and helped contribute to the Tar Heels’ downward spiral which concluded with an ACC title game blowout. Dave Doeren’s team was hoping to play for an ACC title this year, but finishing ranked is a nice consolation.

Mississippi State ends the season as a ranked team thanks to an upset win in Oxford over a ranked Ole Miss team in the Egg Bowl. Overall, it was a successful season for Mike Leach and Co. and they’ll be headed to a decent bowl game.

Troy dominated Coastal Carolina as the Chanticleers were without Grayson McCall once again and improved to 11-2. The Trojans should finally get some respect from the committee after going 7-1 in the Sun Belt and winning the title game handily.

UTSA is a team that I’ve expected to make the leap into the playoff rankings for a while but the committee has been hesitant. The Roadrunners are ranked in the AP and Coaches polls so I think after winning the C-USA title by a wide margin, it’s time to rank the 11-2 squad.

Marcus Freeman’s coaching tenure got off to a rough start at 0-3 dating back to the Fiesta Bowl last year but he bounced back to lead his team back into the rankings and they even took down Clemson for the Tigers’ first loss of the season. Not bad for a year without a legit QB1.
