DJ Uiagalelei has entered the transfer portal. Here are five possible destinations.
Per a report by 247sports.com writer Chris Hummer, Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei has entered the transfer portal:
DJ Uiagalelei struggled in the ACC Championship game, throwing only five passes for ten yards against North Carolina. He also struggled against interstate rival South Carolina going 8/29 for 88 yards in Clemson’s 31-30 loss to the Gamecocks.
Uiagalelei was next in line at Clemson, following Trevor Lawrence, DeShawn Watson, and Tajh Boyd. The St. John Bosco product was the number-one-rated pro-style quarterback and a consensus five-star prospect in the class of 2020. He gave a harbinger of things to come as a true freshman, throwing for 479 yards and two touchdowns against Notre Dame.
Uiagalelei never quite got going after taking the helm in 2021. In his first season as the starter, he completed 55.6 percent of his passes with nine touchdowns and ten interceptions. The junior signal caller improved this season, completing 62.1 of his passes and throwing 22 touchdowns against seven interceptions.
Despite the improvement, he had some bad performances. In addition to the South Carolina game, he threw two interceptions against Syracuse.
Head coach Dabo Swinney said that Cade Klubnik would be the starter moving forward, driving Uiagalelei to the portal. Where ever he goes, he has three years of eligibility left.

5. The Arizona State Sun Devils
New head coach Kenny Dillingham is in the market for a quarterback, and DJ Uiagalelei could have his eyes on going back west. The benefit of the portal is the ability to flip a roster quickly. Dillingham will be aggressive in the portal to improve the talent of the Sun Devils’ roster. An experienced quarterback with big-game experience is just what the doctor ordered.
Dillingham took an erratic, inconsistent quarterback in Bo Nix and unlocked his potential. Uiagalelei could be the next quarterback Dillingham unlocks. The offense fits what Uiagalelei does well; a strong running game with play-action going down the field with the deep ball.
The drawback to going to Arizona State would be the impending NCAA violations. That said, Dillingham will need a strong-armed quarterback to stabilize the position in year one. Uiagalelei could be that quarterback.
