6. Kedon Slovis, Pitt

Slovis is a long shot but belongs on the list because he was the only portal quarterback the Irish contacted last season. Signing Slovis signals that the Irish believe that 2023 or 2024 is when they’ll contend. The former USC and Pitt quarterback is a solid starter but not a game-changer. Also, there had to be a reason for choosing Pitt, and Notre Dame did not pursue him last season.

5. Jeff Sims, Georgia Tech

Sims is an excellent fit for Notre Dame from a tools perspective. He’s athletic with a good arm and can move. The former Florida State commit is a plus in the run game with a high ceiling. If you are Notre Dame, how concerned are you with Sims’ injury history? Sims has never played an entire season and has not fully developed.

Though he’d fit well with what Notre Dame wants to do offensively, the risk may be greater than the reward with Sims.

4. Hudson Card, Texas

Hudson Card is an intriguing prospect. He’s a blue-chipper out of Texas who can run and throw. He happens to be in Texas with Quinn Ewers and before Arch Manning. The Lake Travis High School product has already been linked to Oregon because of his ties with new offensive coordinator Will Stein. That could be contingent on if Bo Nix decides to turn pro.

Card could sit for a year at Oregon because he has three years of eligibility. However, he’d play right away at Notre Dame. Does Notre Dame want a quarterback with three years to play, with CJ Carr coming in 2024 and Tyler Buchner already on the roster?
