Colorado Football: Coach Prime is assembling an all-star coaching staff

Charles Kelly, associate head defensive coordinator/safeties coach, Alabama

Kelly, a veteran defensive coach, was most recently the associate defensive coordinator at Alabama. Before joining Nick Saban’s staff, Kelly coached at Florida State and Tennesee. Coach Prime brings in another veteran coordinator and great recruiter to his staff. In addition, it is rarely a bad idea to pluck from the Nick Saban learning tree.

Andre Hart, linebackers coach, Jackson State

Hart’s associate with Coach Prime returns to Trinity High School in Texas, where they won two state titles in 2019 and 2020. Hart was the head coach, and Sanders was the offensive coordinator. Hart followed Sanders to Jackson State and his following him to Colorado. Sanders regards Hart as one of the bright young minds in coaching.

Vincent Dancy, Head Coach, Mississippi Valley State

Dancy and Sanders connected when they were interstate rivals. Sanders visited Mississippi Valley and helped the university raise money for a practice and game field. Coach Prime has always held Dancy in high regard as a head coach despite the lack of funds at Valley. Dancy’s role is unclear, but he played linebacker at Jackson State and was a defensive coordinator.

Kevin Mathis, defensive backs coach, Jackson State

Mathis and Sanders were teammates with the Dallas Cowboys. Mathis came with Sanders to the now-defunct Prime prep and joined the Jackson State staff in 2020. Despite his lack of experience, Mathis will likely coach the defensive backs at Colorado.
