College football: Ranking top 5 non-New Year’s Six bowls by watchability
College football bowl season is officially here and Friday kicks off the festivities with the Bahamas Bowl and the Cure Bowl.
Those two bowls won’t get a ton of love in the grand scheme of things because, well, most causal college football fans believe that no bowls matter outside of the New Year’s Six. That’s true, to an extent, but bowl games are a good opportunity for some lesser teams and programs to make some noise and really put themselves on the map.
Not just the smallest programs are fighting for respect and you’ll see that on this list.
What are the best non-New Year’s Six bowl games of 2022?
Honorable Mention: Las Vegas Bowl (Oregon State vs. Florida)
Sure, this game would be a whole lot more entertaining if Anthony Richardson opted to play, but that’s why it’s in the honorable mention spot instead of in the top-three range.
I still think this will be a fun game for fans to kick off bowl season on Dec. 17 as Ohio State transfer Jack Miller will get his first start with the Gators at quarterback and we could get a glimpse into the future of Florida football under center.
For Oregon State, it’s looking to just make some noise and earn some respect on a national level. The Beavers do have some solid wins this year, including one to end the season against Oregon, but beating an SEC team would go a long way for this program.
Two teams battling for some respect? This is going to make for one heck of a mid-December bowl game.
