College football: Ranking top 5 non-New Year’s Six bowls by watchability
2. Cheez-It Bowl (Florida State vs. Oklahoma)
Florida State is going to be favored in the Cheez-It Bowl against Oklahoma. Read that again and tell me if you expected to see that written out before the season began.
The Seminoles had been somewhat disappointing under Mike Norvell through his first couple of years as head coach and Oklahoma hired one of the brightest coordinators in the nation in Brent Venables from Clemson while also bringing in UCF quarterback Dillon Gabriel. But Florida State finished 9-3 and Oklahoma limped to a bowl game with a 6-6 record.
And yet they’re facing off in the Cheez-It Bowl on Dec. 28.
Oklahoma might be a better team than its record indicates and Gabriel is one of the best quarterbacks in the country and was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year.
Jordan Travis, on the other hand, had a surprisingly successful season and has been one of the nation’s better dual-threats. Underrated is the perfect word to describe him.
This could end up being a heck of a shootout as both teams average nearly 500 yards.
