College football: Ranking top 5 non-New Year’s Six bowls by watchability
1. Alamo Bowl (Washington vs. Texas)
Probably my favorite non-New Year’s Six bowl game of the year, the Alamo Bowl will also feature two really good quarterbacks (sensing a trend here?).
Washington has Michael Penix Jr. who I believe should have been a legitimate Heisman candidate but because he played for Washington and not a powerhouse program, he was left off the list of finalists. All Penix did was transfer over from Indiana and lead Washington to a 10-2 record while ranking first in college football in passing yards, 13th in touchdowns, and 12th in QBR. This dude is a beast and he’s coming back in 2023.
On the other side is former five-star gunslinger Quinn Ewers and an explosive offense. He’s had an up-and-down first season with Texas but he has elite potential.
Although Bijan Robinson has opted out of this game and will likely be the first running back off the board in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Longhorns have plenty of fun weapons to keep an eye on.
These two teams are going to score a ton of points and the Alamo Bowl will be fun like it is every single year.
