2022 Texas Bowl: Odds, prediction and how to watch

It’s always interesting when the Big 12 and SEC get together and tonight, that will happen in Houston as Texas Tech will take on Ole Miss in the 2022 Texas Bowl.

For Texas Tech, reaching the 2022 Texas Bowl is a win. The Red Raiders were 4-5 at one point, before winning three straight, including a win over Oklahoma to clinch a winning season in the first season under head coach Joey McGuire.

Tyler Shough was up-and-down for the Red Raiders but threw for over 400 yards in the win over Oklahoma. Yet, this isn’t the old air-raid Red Raiders as Tech likes to run the ball too (152 yards on 39 attempts on average in 2022).

Speaking of running the ball, that was the strong suit of Ole Miss during the 2022 season. Jaxson Dart became an interesting running option and has been solid, if not spectacular at quarterback. Quinshon Johnson was spectacular though, rushing for nearly 1,500 yards for the Rebels, who are undefeated when they rush for 200 yards or more.

That’s going to be a focal point in this one. Ole Miss is going to need to run the ball well and after starting 8-1, Ole Miss dropped its last three games and really needs a win after getting beat by Baylor in the Sugar Bowl a year ago.

Texas Tech is looking for its first eight-win season since 2013 and the Red Raiders seem like they will be more motivated after Ole Miss certainly had grander ideas than the Texas Bowl.

Ole Miss is currently a 3.5-point favorite for the 2022 Texas Bowl. The over/under is 71.5 points and the money line is +146 for Texas Tech and -176 for Ole Miss.

2022 Texas Bowl prediction

It would be easy to stick with the current trend for both teams. The Red Raiders have won three in a row, while Ole Miss has dropped three games in a row. However, Ole Miss is the more talented team and the Rebels aren’t going to want to lose a fourth straight.

All the talk in November was about Lane Kiffin leaving this job for Auburn. Now that all that is behind the Rebels, a win and a top-25 finish in the AP poll would be a nice way to end the 2022 season and that’s what happens.

Johnson will have a big day on the ground. Dart will help on the ground as well as in the air and the Rebels will win 38-27.
