Season Overview: 2022 was Iowa State’s worst record since 2016 was Matt Campbell’s first season in Ames. This season came down to the lousy offense. The Cyclones’ point differential was -1. The defense allowed 25 or more points three times, but the offense scored 25 or more only twice. Six of Iowa State’s eight losses were by one possession. When you can’t score, those margins hardly go your way.
2023 Outlook: It is hard to imagine the Cyclones losing six one-possession games again. Iowa State is going to play solid defense and rarely beat themselves. Quarterback Hunter Dekkers showed promise, throwing for over 3,000 yards in 2022. Can they find pieces around him in 2023?
