College football: Ranking all head coaches in 2022 New Year’s Six bowls
Are we looking at the next Nick Saban right in the form of Kirby Smart? It’d be hard to argue to the contrary. Saban’s former student has become a master before our very eyes and he helped Georgia into one of the best programs in college football again.
The Bulldogs are reigning national champions and they’re the favorite to win it all yet again. And Smart has done this all with a former walk-on at quarterback.
If Smart can repeat, there will be plenty of debate to be had about him being the nation’s top football coach, although I’m still all-in on Saban.
Although he’s not in the playoff field this year, you simply cannot disrespect the GOAT and put him any lower than No. 1 on a list of top New Year’s Six coaches.
Smart has given Saban a run for his money recently, but until he retires or completely falls off, he’s the undisputed best coach in college football and arguably the greatest of all time.
Saban won’t have a chance to prove that he’s the best in college football this year, unfortunately, because he’s not in the playoff or coaching for a title, but he could still put on a masterclass against Kansas State and flex that muscle against an up-and-coming program that isn’t in the same league right now.
