Georgia football became the first team of the College Football Playoff era to go back-to-back and here are gut reactions from a dominant national championship win.

The college football national championship game wound up being a snooze fest, at least if for everyone that isn’t a Georgia football fan.

For Bulldogs fans, it was the perfect ending to a perfect season that will end with a 15-0 record. Georgia football didn’t beat Alabama in 2022 and didn’t get the opportunity, but outside of that, this season had everything.

Most importantly, at least compared to last year’s national championship, it also includes a perfect record and an SEC title which makes it feel even more impressive, especially since UGA is now the first repeat national champion of the playoff era thanks to a 65-7 win over TCU.

Last year’s Georgia football team was better. But this one will wind up being more accomplished and Stetson Bennett — a key figure on both — will go down as one of the best winners college football has seen at the quarterback position in a long time.

I don’t know if the former walk-on is good enough to make it in the NFL. But he’s played well and dominated just about every team he’s faced in college football, so I’d at least give him a shot, although having Brock Bowers and the best offensive line in college football surely helps make him look good.

At any rate, it was a night Georgia football fans will remember forever, and here are some gut reactions to a dominating national championship win for the Dawgs.

Gut reactions to the college football national championship

  • Georgia is the best team since Nebraska in 1994-95. This reminded me of the Fiesta Bowl win when Nebraska crushed Steve Spurrier to win two in a row.
  • Kirby Smart has now passed the master Nick Saban as the king of college football.
  • Stetson Bennett will be remembered as a legend, as he should be. Georgia doesn’t win this national title without him.
  • His performance was legendary and the game was over after his fourth touchdown of the first half.
  • Bennett wound up with six touchdowns total and as I said, he deserves a shot in the NFL. He also will go down as one of the best Georgia football players of all time.
  • TCU wasn’t ready for this stage.
  • The Horned Frogs wouldn’t have made the championship in a 12-team playoff.
  • Alabama would have and the Tide are the one team I’d like to see Georgia play.
  • Georgia’s defense is anything but a weakness. It was incredible Monday night.
  • Kudos to Kirby Smart, the best defensive mind in college football.
  • Max Duggan’s magic finally ran out. The first-half interceptions were killer.
  • Georgia almost always wins the running game. It rushed for over 200 and TCU was held to less than 50. That’s one reason to explain a blowout.
  • Football is a simple game and Georgia does the core things better than anybody like winning in the trenches.
  • A three-peat seems like a real possibility. Bennett will be the most difficult to replace but we were reminded stars matter and Georgia football has as many as anyone.
  • Georgia is the new dynasty of college football.
