Looking ahead to the 2023 college football season, here are five teams with the best chance to stop Georgia from winning a third straight national championship.

People have been debating where the Georgia Bulldogs’ recent runs ranks them among all-time college football dynasties.

It’s hard to say exactly but the Bulldogs certainly brought back memories of the Nebraska Cornhuskers of the 1990s, who capped a second straight national title by smacking Steve Spurrier and the Florida Gators in the Fiesta Bowl, 62-24.

Georgia went a step further, putting together the largest margin of victory ever in a college football bowl game with its 65-7 thrashing of TCU in the national title game.

Stetson Bennett will finally be moving on and the Bulldogs are losing some other key pieces as well. Yet, the pipeline is stocked with talent. Kirby Smart is as good as it gets in college football and the oddsmakers view Georgia as the favorite to 3-peat — something Nebraska didn’t do and also something Nick Saban has never done.

It would be an incredible achievement. In the NFL or major college football, three consecutive titles hasn’t happened in the modern era — ever.  So it would be historic. It also makes you wonder which teams could stand in the way and we rank five with the best shot of unseating the Bulldogs.

Florida State football

It’s time to take Florida State football seriously again. The Seminoles posted their first 10-win season and top-10 finish since 2016 and they are loaded. Quarterback Jordan Travis is coming back after a stellar campaign and is an early Heisman Trophy favorite.

Florida State has also been active in the transfer portal adding TE Jaheim Bell, TE Kyle Morlock, OL Jeremiah Byers, OL Casey Roddick, DT Braden Fiske, and CB Fentrell Cypress II.

Cypress transferred from Virginia and was one of the top cornerbacks in the transfer portal. The same can be said for Bell and Fiske at DT.  Jared Verse also announced his return along the D-line and he’s a potential top-10 pick.

Florida State returns most of its skill guys from last season, so the offense should be outstanding and frankly, the Seminoles are my early pick to win the ACC championship.

College football fans were mocking Mike Norvell prior to the season and talking about him being fired. Now, there’s a different tune emanating from Florida State football and the Noles once again have the look of a national title contender.
