Dave Aranda’s third season with Baylor football didn’t quite live up to expectations as the Bears went just 6-7 a year after winning the Big 12 title.

If he’s going to hope for a turnaround in 2023, he’ll need to see some second-year players from his 2022 class step up and become stars.

Here are the three second-year Bears who I believe will become stars in 2023.

Grant Miller is moving on after his senior season and that could make room for a guy like George Maile to climb into the starting lineup.

Maile was the third-best recruit in Baylor’s 2022 class as a four-star and he was ranked the No. 391 overall recruit and 16th-best interior offensive lineman in the country, according to the 247Sports composite. If there’s one offensive lineman heading into his second year that has a chance to be a star for the Bears in 2023, it’s definitely Maile.

The Utah native has great size at 6-foot-4 and 290 pounds and he will fit a need for the Bears next season with Miller gone.

While he may not exactly be a household name next season for Baylor, he will be one of the better young offensive linemen in the Big 12. I could see him winning a starting job this spring.
