Nebraska football: 3 second-year players who’ll become stars in 2023
Nebraska football is undergoing some major changes this offseason. Scott Frost is out at head coach and Matt Rhule has been hired and the program seems to be headed back in the right direction.
Rhule had plenty of success before as the head coach of Temple as well as Baylor before jumping to the NFL and fizzling out with the Panthers.
Now, he’ll have to rely on the current roster to help kickstart the turnaround.
Which second-year players will become stars in Rhule’s first season?
This spot may have been reserved for Decoldest Crawford originally because I love that name and I think he had true star potential, but he decided to hit the transfer portal because of the coaching change and he’s now at Louisiana Tech.
That means Janiran Bonner takes this spot, and he’s probably the better choice.
Bonner was the second-best recruit in Nebraska’s 2022 class and he was ranked the No. 311 overall prospect and 47th-best receiver, according to the composite.
The Georgia native flipped from Georgia Tech to Nebraska last signing day and he probably expected to have an immediate impact. That just didn’t happen.
In fact, Bonner didn’t catch any passes and was a no-show on the depth chart.
Rhule is going to change that this season with the depth chart looking for some playmakers. Bonner fits that description and the former four-star prospect will help make up for the losses of Trey Palmer and Omar Manning.
No one is talking about it yet, but he has true WR1 potential.
