Texas A&M football: Conner Weigman is the key to 2023 turnaround

The 2022 season was a nightmare for Texas A&M football.

The Aggies finished just 5-7 and had one of the most inconsistent offenses in the SEC. A big reason for that has been poor quarterback play and Jimbo Fisher knows what he needs to do in 2023 at the position. He needs to go with Conner Weigman.

Weigman, a former five-star quarterback, was solid in his first year with the Aggies, passing for 896 yards and eight touchdowns with zero picks.

Safe to say, Weigman was the best quarterback to suit up for the Aggies last season as Haynes King was massively disappointing in his first year as the QB1.

If Texas A&M is going to get back to contending in the SEC, it needs to trust Weigman.

Texas A&M football’s 2023 success depends on Weigman

Fisher built up the defense through the past couple of recruiting classes so that side of the ball shouldn’t be an issue for the Aggies next year.

The major problem for Texas A&M last season was offensive inconsistency and the mediocrity of the quarterback position. Weigman changes that with his elite potential. He could be one of the best quarterbacks in the SEC right away and as long as he improves that completion percentage, he immediately improves that Texas A&M offense.

Texas A&M also needs Weigman to become a star if Fisher is going to remain the head coach throughout the remainder of his contract.

A lot is riding on the five-star second-year quarterback and while the pressure could potentially crush him, he’s built to be a star and he’s going to be elite in 2023. The Aggies will be back near the top thanks to Weigman.
