Are we shocked that James Franklin went with Sean Clifford over the shiny new tow that was five-star freshman Drew Allar? We shouldn’t be. The Penn State head coach has shown plenty of loyalty to veteran players, especially Clifford. He actually had a solid season with over 2,800 yards and 24 touchdowns with just seven picks and a 64 percent completion rate.

But now Clifford is gone and it’s Allar’s turn.

I’ve been high on Allar for a while dating back to his days as an Elite 11 quarterback and I think he has the potential to be the best quarterback in the Big Ten as soon as next season. He’s that good.

Allar had a relatively quiet freshman season, passing for 344 yards and four touchdowns while completing 58 percent of his passes. Oh, and he had no interceptions.

Allar could very well push JJ McCarthy and Taulia Tagovailoa as the best quarterback in the Big Ten in 2023.
