Notre Dame football: Grading the Irish’s 2023 recruiting class

Marcus Freeman’s second recruiting cycle as Notre Dame football coach went fairly well as he landed the No. 11 group in the country and there’s not really a weakness in the class.

The Irish are bringing in 24 players and half of them are enrolled early which is a good sign for the growth and maturation of the young group. A lot of these guys will have the ability to play early on for Notre Dame.

But let’s take a look at how the 2023 class grades out, by position, now that it’s official.

Offensive line: B+

While there are some really good players on the offensive line in this class, the grade is just a B+ because only one is enrolled early and Sam Pendleton is ranked the No. 402 prospect in the class, per 247Sports. I really like him on the interior, but he likely won’t have an immediate impact.

The Irish do, however, have Charles Jagusah coming in over the summer after finishing as the No. 7 offensive tackle and No. 61 overall recruit in the 2023 class. He’s going to be a guy who could come in and compete right away.

Then there’s Sullivan Absher and Joe Otting who’re both four-stars ranked in the top 400 and they’re both also interior offensive linemen.

The class filled needs on the interior with Jarrett Patterson and Josh Lugg gone but there’s only one guy who I believe will play a decent amount as a freshman.
