Notre Dame football should be very worried about Georgia in the recruitment of five-star Justin Scott and here’s the latest on the five-star defensive tackle.

When it comes to five-star defensive Justin Scott, Notre Dame football has long been considered the leader and was close to a commitment before the 6-foot-5, 310-pounder decided to delay his decision date.

On its face, it’s not always a bad thing. Sometimes, recruits want to take more visits and in some cases, it just takes more time to make a decision.

However, when you are the favorite in a recruitment, you want it to end as soon as possible. The longer things go, the more chances there are for things to go south.

And right now, that could be happening with Notre Dame football and its efforts to land Scott the No. 20 overall prospect according to the On3 consensus rankings for 2024.

The reason Notre Dame football fans should be worried is that Justin Scott is going to take an official visit to Georgia in April according to a report from Chad Simmons of On3.com.

What it means for Georgia, Notre Dame football

Georgia has really been making a push and that work has been rewarded by Scott taking an official visit April 14-16. It sounds like there is a chance, according to Simmons, that Scott will potentially take an unofficial visit to Georgia in March, but the official is locked in.

Notre Dame football has hosted Scott for a couple of unofficial visits and when he was going to decide on Jan. 31, the Irish seemed like the clear leader. Things changed though and Georgia at least gave Scott something to think about.

Now, the ball is in the court of Marcus Freeman. Notre Dame isn’t the only other team after him either as Michigan, Alabama, Colorado, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, and USC all made his final eight.

Georgia wasn’t on that list but was offered after it was put out. Now, Georgia has secured one of five official visits, which tells you something about their standings. Miami, Florida, and others are trying to work their way into the mix.

If Notre Dame can get him for a visit, all hope might not be lost. Scott is from Chicago and that’s generally been a strong recruiting area for Notre Dame.

Yet, with the Bulldogs’ recent success developing defensive linemen, you’d have to be crazy not to consider Georgia and that’s why I’d be very worried if I was a Notre Dame football fan.
