Washington football had a massive bounce-back under Kalen DeBoer in 2022 and a lot of that success can be attributed to the addition of Michael Penix Jr. at quarterback.

The Huskies finished the season with an 11-2 record and they were No. 8 in the final AP Top 25 which is quite a turnaround given the fact that they were pushovers a year prior.

With a fairly favorable schedule in 2023, the Huskies could push for a Pac-12 title and even a College Football Playoff berth.

How will they fare in 2023?

Boise State may very well be one of the best teams from the Group of Five, but I think the Huskies take care of business here to pick up their first win of the season and kick off a nice resume that might just help them in their playoff push.

Michael Penix Jr. will throw for 400 yards and three touchdowns and his Heisman campaign will get off to a roaring start.

Prediction: Win (1-0)

Tulsa, on the other hand, is not one of the better Group of Five teams in the nation, finishing just 5-7 last year and I don’t see much improvement on the horizon.

This should be a fairly easy win for Washington as the Huskies improve to 2-0 on the year and Penix just adds to his yardage total and Heisman resume.

Prediction: Win (2-0)
