USC football picked up a huge crystal ball on Thursday as the Trojans are projected to now land the No. 1 tight end in the 2023 recruiting class.
The 2023 college football recruiting class is pretty much wrapped up, but there is one really big fish still out there and it’s the top-ranked tight end Duce Robinson.
Duce Robinson was a big storyline on national signing day but he decided not to make an announcement and still hasn’t made a commitment.
However, the 6-foot-6 tight end could be closing in on a decision and we now have a new crystal ball from Blair Angulo of 247 sports.
Flipping back from Georgia to USC football
That new crystal ball projection is for the USC football program which has been the top contender along with the Georgia Bulldogs.
Angulo flipped his pick from Georgia to the Trojans which also feels significant to me. The Oregon Ducks have also been trying to get into the mix but Georgia has long been the favorite.
However, one thing USC football has going for is the distance as the prospect from Phoenix is much closer to USC than Georgia. That could matter in some ways because Robinson is also looking at a career in major league baseball.
While Duce Robinson could be playing professional baseball someday, instead of professional football, he’s definitely got the chance to make an impact on the field in 2023.
Duce Robinson is part of the 2023 recruiting class, so he would be able to enroll in the fall and could make a significant impact next season.
Of course, Georgia already has one of the best tight ends in college football so his impact could be limited. USC football, on the other hand, has a wide-open depth chart. Lake McRee is the projected tight end atop the depth chart for the Trojans, who could definitely use his talents.
Heisman trophy winner Caleb Williams doesn’t have a shortage of weapons but adding Robinson to the mix would be exciting for any team and with the need the Trojans have at tight end, you can see why USC football could win his commitment.
We have no idea when a final decision could come but USC football seems to have the momentum right now, meaning the Trojans have to be hoping it comes sooner rather than later.
