For some reason or another, KJ Jefferson is being overlooked ahead of the 2023 season.

The senior quarterback decided to come back for another season after passing for 2,648 yards with career-highs in touchdown passes (24) and completion percentage (68). And yet, he’s still being overlooked heading into the 2023 season.

Why is that?

One reason may be the fact that the Razorbacks were slightly underwhelming last season. They took a step back for the first time under Sam Pittman and finished 7-6 overall and 3-5 in SEC play. It was a tough season as a team and usually even the best quarterbacks don’t get a ton of publicity on bad teams.

Plus, he missed a couple of games so he kind of flew under the radar for a second year in a row despite improving in some major categories.

But overlook him at your own risk, folks.

Arkansas football needs KJ Jefferson

If Arkansas is going to bounce back and contend in the SEC this season, Jefferson needs to have a career year, and if he can stay healthy, I think he achieves that. He already has back-to-back 2,500-plus yard seasons with 20-plus touchdowns and a high completion percentage in each and he’s shown he can be one of the best passers in the SEC.

Oh, and he has the ability to tuck and run. That makes him even more dangerous.

Jefferson is capable of putting up 3,000-plus yards and 25-plus touchdowns this upcoming season while rushing for over 650 yards and nearly 10 more scores. He can be the best quarterback in the SEC, and I truly believe that.

So while Arkansas doesn’t exactly strike fear into the hearts of Alabama or Georgia or LSU, Jefferson sure as heck should.
