Looking back at the past week of college football recruiting and breaking down the top commitments led by LSU football and Penn State.

We have been saying that things were going to pick up in the 2024 college football recruiting class and this past week was a perfect example.

A week ago, there was just a slew of college football recruiting commitments, but this past week, 17 recruits have pledged in the 2024 class including a number of blue-chip prospects (ranked as a four-star recruit or higher).

A number of programs landed multiple commitments over the past week including LSU, Penn State football, Minnesota, Syracuse, and Iowa State. So looking back at the past week, here is our analysis of the top college football recruiting commitments from the past week (2/27 – 3/5).

Penn State football lands two blue-chippers

Penn State football doesn’t seem to get the credit that it deserves on the recruiting trail but the Nittany Lions did some solid work over the past week. Earlier the week, four-star linebacker Kari Jackson (ranked No. 411 overall) pledged to the Nittany Lions.

Jackson is one of the top players in the state of Michigan in the 2024 class and he was joined by four-star cornerback Kenny Woseley. He’s ranked 366th overall in the 247 sports composite rankings and is ranked ninth in the state of Pennslyvania.

So in terms of winners for the past week, it’s hard to find a college football team that was more productive than Penn State football, which landed top-10 players and continued to develop its pipeline of talent in the state of Michigan.

LSU football also lands two recruits

Another team with two college football recruiting commitments over the past week was LSU football and the Tigers had the top-ranked pledge in four-star Kolaj Cobbins. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound linebacker out of Destrehan, Louisiana is ranked 199th overall, as well as being No. 5 in the state.

However, it wasn’t the only in-state addition in the 2024 class for Brian Kelly and company as the LSU football was able to flip the commitment of EDGE Ahmad Breaux from Duke. He’s 6-foot-3, 255 pounds, and out of Ruston, Lousiana.

Breaux is also ranked 707th via the 247 sports composite rankings in the 2024 class and it was a good week for LSU football in terms of in-state recruiting.

Clemson and Minnesota land key commitments too

David Eziomume is a four-star running back that committed to the Tigers and was one of four blue-chip commitments over the past week. Eziomume is out of Georgia and is 342nd overall, as well as 27th among running backs in the 2024 class.

Minnesota now has five commitments in the 2023 class and this week, the Gophers landed possibly a quarterback of the future in Aaron Philo. The Georgia signal-caller is ranked 59th among quarterbacks in 2024 and ranks 845th overall in the 247 sports composite rankings.

But that’s sort of where Minnesota lives and the key for the Gophers is development. As of now, they have five commitments in 2024 and four of them are ranked in the top 1,000 but none are blue-chip prospects or in the top 700, which makes development still essential for PJ Fleck.
