San Diego State football is looking to get back to the top of the Group of Five in 2023 and if Brady Hoke has anything to say about it, that’s definitely going to happen.
The Aztecs are, however, coming off a disappointing 7-6 season with a Hawaii Bowl loss to Middle Tennessee. That was far short of what the fanbase was expecting, especially after Hoke led the Aztecs to a 12-2 season in 2021 with a Frisco Bowl win. They were on the verge of representing the Group of Five in a New Year’s Six bowl but Cincinnati made the playoff.
Improvements must be made this offseason in order for Hoke’s Aztecs to get back to that level, but he’s proven before that he can engineer quick turnarounds.
The spring game will be a chance to show fans if improvement can be expected from a less-than-exciting seven-win season and if Jalen Mayden is going to take that next step as a quarterback after throwing just 12 touchdown passes to 10 interceptions.
So when will San Diego State host its annual spring game?
When is San Diego State football’s spring game?
If you’re looking for an official date, the school announced that it will take place on March 23 at 6 p.m. local time and gates will open at 5 p.m.
This is one of the first spring games of the season and it’ll give fans an idea of what to expect in 2023. If the offense, led by Mayden, looks improved, then maybe we can a contending San Diego State team again.
There is no listed channel, but the game is free to the public so if you want to watch, go check it out in person. I’ll be following along to see if Hoke has a contender this year.
