Latest on Dylan Raiola as spring visits are approaching
We check where things stand with five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola in the 2024 college football recruiting class.
Regarding the 2024 college football recruiting class, there probably isn’t a player garnering more attention than five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola.
Raiola is the son of Dominic Raiola, a former standout for Nebraska and a Pro Bowler in the NFL. At one time, Raiola was committed to Ohio State but decommitted back in December, allowing several teams to jump back in.
Georgia is the most prominent team in the mix. Right around the national championship game, Dylan Raiola seemed to be trending toward Georgia. Then, Nebraska got more involved and Raiola was able to attend a basketball game of the Huskers. He got a standing ovation from the fans.
Nebraska got the first crystal ball for Dylan Raiola after his commitment. But Georgia got some too before the Huskers got a couple more.
That was before Raiola took a visit to USC. After that, the Trojans started to trend for the top-ranked quarterback in the 2024 college football recruiting class and it’s not a shock.
Lincoln Riley is one of the top developers of quarterbacks in all of college football, so the Trojans have a lot to offer but it’s close to his home in Phoenix. Nebraska also has ties to his father and it’s clear that Matt Rhule’s approach has resonated.
According to Chad Simmons of On3.com, Raiola is going to visit Georgia this weekend. People have started to count out the Bulldogs (for some reason) and that’s a mistake.
Yes, Todd Monken left for the NFL but Kirby Smart has always been a huge part of this recruitment and Mike Bono was the OC at Georgia when Matt Stafford was there, so it’s not a huge issue according to Simmons.
When could a decision come?
Steve Wilftong of 247 sports has his crystal ball on the Trojans right now. But, we’ll see if that shifts at all after this weekend or next weekend when Dylan Raiola will visit Nebraska.
Simmons also reported that Oregon and USC are expected to get visits next month. In terms of a commitment, my guess is one will come in June or July — similar to Arch Manning.
I think it will come down to those final official visits. Quarterbacks tend to commit before their senior season. There has been a rumor of a spring commitment and who knows, one could come after this spring cycle of visits.
But I think there is still a way to go in this recruitment and I think it’s too early to count out any of the top four contenders — USC, Georgia, Nebraska, or Oregon.
